Built in the 17th century as a hunting lodge, the villa took on its present appearance in 1737, when the architect Giuseppe Prada remodelled it for the Bussi, an old Viterbo family of merchants, Knights of Malta and cardinals. The frescoes of the Gallery, commissioned by the Commander Papirio, celebrate the family’s deeds; the chapel was built by Cardinal Giovanni Battista Bussi.
